New blog by Google AI about the Google/GBIF/iNat/Visipedia Collaboration: "Weโre pleased to announce a new collaboration with GBIF, iNaturalist & Visipedia to bring open-source datasets and models to the world-wide community for the advancement of global biodiversity research." https://ai.googleblog.com/2019/10/a-new-workflow-for-collaborative.html
this is such a great collaboration with gbif ... i hope it starts a trend of sharing progress using ML within biodiversity study, conservation, etc....
Nice blog! My impression is that a lot of state fish & wildlife services donโt contribute to GBIF when they complete their studies? Iโd love to hear from people who have contributed based on their camera trap survey data, and what pain points there are.
@Siyu Yang good point! I'd also be interested to hear more.

Game developers at Internet of Elephants just released a new free mobile game titled, Unseen Empire, about a camera trapping project to monitor clouded leopard habitat.

They plan to include new studies, habitats, species, and researchers in their next version of the game. Contact Gautam Shah at gautam@internetofelephants.com if interested.
Not sure if this fits the M.O. of this group, but I thought some would find it interesting. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/ai-could-spot-wildfires-faster-than-humans/

Hi everyone,
There a few recent US Federal decisions, relevant to many research topics in this group, that I am personally concerned about. I thought I would share them here as News releases. I will be calling my representatives and letting the know my personal feelings about these particular decisions. If you are also concerned and would like to make your opinions known, here are the links to phone numbers for House [https://www.house.gov/representatives ] and Senate members [https://www.senate.gov/senators/senators-contact.htm] indexed by state.
In particular, I am personally concerned about the Interim Final Rule Removing Council on Environmental Quality regulations implementing the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2025/02/25/2025-03014/removal-of-national-environmental-policy-act-implementing-regulations
