curious what wireless data transmission is being used for the AMMOD system, given how much data itโs generating
he mentioned that there was a transmission method but not what it was
INTERDICIPLINARY PHD OPPORTUNITY
RELATED TO THE WORKSHOP UPCOMING
To anyone in the community looking for a PhD position at the boundary of AI/Ecology/Robotics look out for this upcoming project https://www.sdu.dk/en/forskning/sduuascenter/news/wilddrone-announcement building on cutting edge work by many institutions including Max Planck Institute of Animal Behavior, University of Mรผnster, WIPSEA, Wageningen University, Bruno Kessler Foundation, Avy, EPFL, University of Bristol, and University of Southern Denmark. Look out for this to come up and let interested students know this is upcoming!
there will be 13 (yes!) PhD opportunities in this EU-funded network in Danemark, UK, Germany, Switzerland etc. We will make sure the information gets to everyone!
Thanks for all the great talks!
If you have projects in this area on GitHub that aren't tagged with "camera-traps" and you would like folks learning about the area to find your code, tag away!
Glad to see some lepidoptera in your presentation today @Paul Bodesheim! What was the paper you showed that explored segmentation of moth images i.e. identifying the body parts for fine-grained classification?
Hi Michael. We put the slides of the presentation to the workshop webpage. The papers you find on the webpage of my colleague Dimitri Korsch who is working on the part-based classification approaches: https://inf-cv.uni-jena.de/home/group/korsch/
Thanks Paul. I will check the slides and the papers on Dimitri's site.
Thanks @Tilo Burghardt for bringing your energy!
Thanks to all presenters!

THANKS EVERYBODY!
Amazing to see so many people interested in the topic, 70-90 human souls giving up their time, every week for 3 weeks! Thank you all, particularly our amazing speakers!
These are the things that will happen next:
amazing this was really invaluable, HUGE thank you to @Tilo Burghardt and everyone else involved in organizing!

Dear all,
first follow-up session of the workshop for any of you interested in formulating and contributing towards Perspectives for End-to-end Computational Species Monitoring with Camera Traps in paper form today at 10:00 EDT, first steps towards this today - link to join as usual on the website camtrapai.github.io. All talks from the workshop are online as PDFs as well.
See you there,
---Tilo
Dear all who joined our paper working group today (CamtrapAI Follow-up),
thank you - what a diverse group of interested parties! We will meet again on Nov 2nd 2022 at the same time - at that point our subteams RED (coordinator: Tiziana) and GREEN (coordinator: Paul) will report on the work and reviews done and we will pinpoint exactly: what we have found, what we will do, what venue we are aiming at, what our timeline will be. Paul will put up a shared Google Doc in the next days and we will share the link with all participants. I will try to reach out to fill missing expertise and coordinate things as much as possible at such an early stage. Thanks everybody for showing up and contributing (thanks Devis and others for helpful insights and apt and scary warnings - you are right, this stuff is a mountain of an adventure! Nevertheless: โYou must go on adventures to find out where you truly belong...โ (Sue Fitzmaurice) Lets see together where CamtrapAI truly belongs!)
Good luck all subteams re our initial work! SubTeamCoordinators: remember to be firm, it is ONLY 4 weeks!
See anyone in the paper working group in a month the latest, take care,
---Tilo
I'm bummed I couldn't make it, I'm in the field today with @Nathaniel Rindlaub and @Jinsu Elhance putting out some edge connected cameras! Let me know how I can help :)
[for folks on the call right now]
List of repos in this area that I'm aware of:

[also for folks on the call right now]
Examples of real-time demos for camera trap models... these are for MegaDetector, but the idea we're talking about is getting a space up that aggregates things like these for other models:

Dear all,
just a last minute invite to the new edition of the "CamTrapAI meets Ecology Workshop" running next week 2 Mar 2023 10:00 EDT at https://camtrapai.github.io. Anyone welcome to tune in! The whole of next week is "Bristol AI and Nature Week" at https://camtrapai.github.io/ai_nature_week.html with lots of talks streamed online for anyone who would like to join....Tanya Berger-Wolf will be around and there will be lots of talks from AI for Conservation, Science Drones, Farming, Natural History TV Productions etc.
Best wishes,

๐ฃ CamTrapAI Workshop 2025 in Seattle, USA hosted by Ai2 as hybrid event with online participation option on September 9-10!
๐ We just released the Call for Papers for extended abstracts (4 pages) and full papers (6 pages), specifically encouraging you to submit early findings and preliminary results.
๐ฏ Paper submission Deadline: July 1st (AOE)
๐
Authors of selected best papers will be invited to submit extended versions to a Special Issue of the IET Computer Vision Journal.
โจ More information on the workshop website: https://camtrapai.github.io/workshop-2025.html
Will there be opportunities to submit talks/presentations? We do a lot of AI application/software at SDZWA but we don't necessarily focus on publications
+1, I have a bunch of random MegaDetector/SpeciesNet stuff that would be fun to talk about that's more like "experience report" than "research". Maybe application-focused lightning talks?
I think for past workshops there was a paper submission and accepted papers got to give talks!
But I agree that an application track would be awesome
I like your ideas. ๐ In the past, we also had keynote speakers for invited talks. Will discuss this with the other organizers and keep both of you in mind for presenting, @Kyra Swanson and @Dan Morris.
Update for @Kyra Swanson and @Dan Morris: You could submit an extended abstract (max. 4 pages) that explains what you want to present in your talk. If you make it clear in the introduction right at the beginning that this submission is not intended to be treated as a usual research paper but rather as a summary of findings and experiences or as an introduction of software apps and tools you would like to share with the community and to present during the workshop, this should be fine.
@Kyra Swanson: you could use the extended abstract to introduce your AI apps and software that you use at SDZWA, what they are able to do and for which purpose/task you use them, how the community would benefit from them, etc. Together with some screenshots, you might easily fill the 4 pages without much effort/overhead compared to preparing slides. ๐
In any case, I encourage both of you to submit a piece about your work to our workshop, much appreciated. We will decide later how we integrate your submissions in the workshop program, e.g., a special application track or lightning talk session. Hope this helps. If you have further questions, just let me know.
๐ฃ We extended the deadline for submissions to the CamTrapAI Workshop to July 9th (AOE)
โจ Check the workshop website for submission instructions and further information: https://camtrapai.github.io/workshop-2025.html
Hi Paul, when will we know if our registration has been accepted? I submitted the Google form but I'm not sure if I made it in time to be one of the luck 30! Thanks
Hi Kyra, Otto is taking care of the registrations, and I think there are still few seats left. So your registration is accepted, and Otto will send confirmation e-mails soon. He planned to close the registration form once all spots are filled, so if you could access the form and submit it, it should be all fine.
The 2025 workshop is starting now! Feel free to join online on short notice via GoogleMeet: https://camtrapai.github.io
Will the sessions be recorded? For those that can't attend the entire workshop due to time zone differences. ๐
Sorry, no recordings. But we will upload papers and slides to the website once we have collected everything.
